You may feel that you can’t really make much of a difference, or maybe that you can only influence those younger than you. Today, we want to encourage you to live out this quote from John C. Maxwell:
“Leadership is more disposition than position—influence others from wherever you are.”
― John C. Maxwell, The 360 Degree Leader.
Disposition refers to how you are made – your character, how you express your emotions, and your attitude to life.
John C. Maxwell writes to encourage us that we can influence others from above, alongside, and below. The way in which you act and live your life will influence those younger than you, your friends, and teachers/leaders around you.
As you allow the Holy Spirit to transform you and your character, you will have an impact beyond what you can imagine; but if you block out this transformation, then your level of influence will be limited. – Remember, influence is not about control. You can try controlling people, but that won’t be healthy, and probably won’t last long.
Instead, influence others by your character, and that will leave a lasting impression.
Take a few moments to pray.
- Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and transform your life.
- Allow Him to reveal areas of your life where you are trying to control rather than influence.
- Ask God to give you a heart that reaches out for others and seeks God’s best for their lives.
